Today we decided to continue to head east (and a little north), as opposed to going south east, which we thought we were going to be doing. One plan had been to go down into the Lake of the Ozarks region. This is the same place where we thought we were going on the way out west (in early March). Pam was keen to get out of the areas where tornadoes might be a problem.
We drove into Missouri and then all the way across the state to (and past) St. Louis and then on to Mulberry Grove, Illinois (about 60 miles east of St. Louis). We took Interstate 70 all the way. Pam started the day driving and we took turns. Pam is getting to be a very proficient trailer-puller.
During the day, the idea of heading home sooner than we had intended began to spark a lot of interest in people. By the end of the day travelling we were all thinking that we would be home much sooner than mid-May.
The campground we had chosen was a Good Sam park (we had joined on a 60 day membership back at Tucson). Here is a picture of the office / pool table room (we never used it) / TV room (only used once .. the building was very musty smelling inside):
The campsite is very nice. We were situated just up a little hill from a pond. The trees are just coming out, including some pretty pink ones. Here is a picture of the campsite:
On Sunday, on the advice of Heather Lynn, we decided to hang about (i.e. take a break from driving) and not really do much (which included sleeping in). It was very pleasant. Pam and David went to do some errands at a nearby town. In the late afternoon it started to sprinkle, and continued to do so into the evening. Heather Lynn learned to play Alpha Centauri (computer game) with James as her advisor.
We did meet a woman who was travelling with her husband from California to the Owen Sound area. They had just retired and were trying out a camper for the first time across country. They were enjoying themselves quite a bit. We also made friends with a couple of cats (her is one of them):
Before we left, the kids visited another type of neighbour and took a picture:
On Monday morning we got up, ate, packed up, and headed on to Indianapolis to visit our friends, Patty and Kirk Symons (who used to live in Kanata).
